washington dc photographer | a newborn lifestyle session | devon

So many things I love about this session! I think the first is how much I just adore Monica and Michael as a couple and seeing them for the first time as parents was so heartwarming. They were so relaxed, and it seemed as if they had been doing this their whole life. They really had settled into a routine by the time I had arrived to photograph Baby Devon.

I know Monica from my full time job. We have worked together in one of my programs for about a year. So it was such an honor when she reached out to have me photograph not only Devon's newborn photos but to also photograph their Maternity Session back in December. I always get nervous when I photograph new clients and even more nervous photographing my coworkers. By the time I got to photograph Devon's arrival, it really felt like old friends hanging out. Everything about this session was exactly why I love shooting lifestyle. We hung out, talked about work, their sweet new baby and just life in general. Nothing was rushed and yes we did go with Devon's flow...but seriously she as the easiest baby ever. And oh my goodness...those sweet baby yawns...I never catch them but this day I got so many!

Choosing to be solely a lifestyle photographer in the newborn posed photography world was a super easy choice for me. Being able to walk into someone's home and using it as my backdrop and canvas is dream come true. From brick walls, to baby sheets, a parents bedroom, window light and rocking chairs are what makes every session unique and special. Everyone's home is different and I love to be able to document this new time in a parents life, the way it was intended. Spending time taking in all the details and the interactions with a new Mom and Dad is what these sessions are intended to be about. It's all the small moments that go so very quickly the very first year a baby is born. Moments that need extra special documenting.
